The Acropolis
Rising 500 feet above sea level, imposing, easily accessible and with springs close to its base, the Sacred Rock was an ideal choice of citadel and sanctuary from the earliest times. Standing proud for centuries, the Acropolis of Athens is the symbol of the city and the connection between the present and the glorious past. The ancient citadel contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, dating from the prehistoric period up to the ancient times.
